College Success Tips

High School Students

High school students, I know you can almost feel summer in the air. It’s almost here. If you are one of those high school students who is still on the fence about where to go for college or your next steps, there are still many options open and available to you. This post will give you a comprehensive list of every school in the US with late deadlines, as well as a list of rolling deadline schools.

College Students

Finals are here! Are you ready? All-night study sessions have proven to be more harmful than helpful. Spend time studying, but be sure to get your rest if you want to “ace” those exams. We will be cheering for you every step of the way. Here are a few quotes to motivate you as you study this week:

“It’s not about how hard you want it; it’s about how hard you work for it.”

“Don’t watch the clock; do what it does. Keep going.”

“Nothing is impossible; the very word says I’m possible.”

“If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk. If you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do, you have to keep moving forward.”

- Martin Luther King Jr.

Parents

Parents, we have a scholarship just for you! We applaud you for all of the hard work you’ve put into helping your student make it this far. It’s no easy task!

There are many things to keep track of when your child is getting close the leaving for college. If you haven’t already, it’s time to start making a list of things to be done so nothing falls through the cracks.

Here is a list to get you started:

  1. Encourage your student to make decisions in school choices and major choices.

  2. Work on a budget together to identify what money needs to be found in scholarships or financial aid. We have a great article to help with all the pieces of college finances here.

  3. Sign up for Imagine Scholarships. Scholarships are available throughout high school and all throughout college. This is a small investment with a huge return.

  4. Make sure you have all the needed legal documents for your college bound student.

  5. Take a moment for yourself to laugh with others in this process with you. Here’s a fun article about what the 80s and college admissions have in common.

  6. If your student is male and 18, they must register for the selective service.

  7. Most schools require a meningitis shot before starting college.

  8. Apply for the parent scholarship. Who couldn’t use an extra $500.00 ?

  9. Consider getting a new email address for your student. Start sending helpful emails to that address now. Example: How to do laundry, what to cook, ideas for study tips and habits…. When your student graduates, give them the email address and password. They will have words of wisdom waiting for them from you!

  10. Finally, ENJOY the last few months / weeks / days with them still at home. Squeeze every drop out this thing we call childhood and then watch them fly.

    Educators

Educators are modern day heroes. Seriously, you are going above and beyond everyday. We want to celebrate your wins and the wins of your students. As you reflect on the year that is coming to an end, what have been your biggest wins? Which students have you made the most impact with? How were you most successful with these students? I encourage you to journal your wins. These will be critical to your success moving forward, especially on the hard days. You’re almost to the finish line! Great work! Here is a Ted Talk about the one thing that all great teachers (educators) do.

We need your help- At Imagine, we love good news and celebrating the wins of students, parents and educators.
