Educators

We can all agree that building students’ confidence skills is critical to their future success. How do we do that? That is the million-dollar question.

Social media can contribute to a low self-esteem. We see the “smiling” posts of others who seem to have the perfect life. In doing this, we start to compare our insides to others’ outsides. It’s no surprise that our students are often feeling “less than.” Our students spend an average of 4.8 hours per day on social media. That is almost a quarter of the waking hours they have each day. If we want to build confidence in these students, we must counteract the negatives with positives. The words they say to themselves matter.

The messages we all tell ourselves not only affect our thoughts, but they can lead to changes in how we feel, behave, and ultimately act. In summary, we must change the narrative these students tell themselves. In the next few weeks, we will explore ways to change the narrative and flip the script with these students. Stay tuned!
