Money Mondays

Imagine where you can go with a scholarship and a dream!

Happy Monday!

It’s me, Sherri, popping into your inbox with our weekly newsletter for students, parents, and those who support them. This week is filled with our featured scholarships, tips on staying ahead, and motivation.

I’m writing to you from Austin, TX, where there will be a total eclipse today. I (along with thousands of others) am eagerly awaiting this rare sight. The last time this happened in Austin was in 1397, and the next one will be in 2043. The students at the University of Texas put together a video explaining the details of this monumental event. It’s an interesting watch.

College Success Tips

High School Students

You have choices! Stay focused on finishing strong this semester. Your grades are a key component of your GPA and your GPA partially decides which colleges you’ll be accepted to. Staying on top of those grades and finish the semester strong. Not sure what a GPA is? You can find more information here. You can take matters into your own hands and use a GPA calculator or create your own using a spreadsheet. Here is an example

College Students

This week, I want to encourage you, college students, to make sure to fill out your FAFSA. Though there are still many, many issues with it, I encourage you to make sure it’s filled out. Statistics show that over 90% of students make very costly mistakes when filling it out. Here is a guide to filling it out and we have many other helpful resources to help you in the process. Lastly, don’t forget that you can appeal your financial aid package if you aren’t pleased with the results.

Parents

Parents, as you guide your student through the higher education landscape, one crucial aspect to consider is the support colleges offer for career development. A well-resourced career center can make a significant difference in your child's transition from student to professional. These centers often provide comprehensive services, including resume building workshops, internship placement assistance, and access to a robust alumni network for mentorship and job opportunities. Encouraging your student to take full advantage of these resources early can lay a solid foundation for their future career success.

Educators

This week in education, there are two main focuses.

  1. The continuing issues with the FAFSA. This week, the announcement came that over 300,000 FAFSA applications will have to be redone due to errors. While it’s frustrating, it’s still important that our students get those FAFSAs filled out.

  2. Many universities are reinstating the SAT / ACT requirements as part of their application process. It’s important to know which schools and to help students decide what is the best option for them when it comes to reporting test scores.

🚨 Scholarship Spotlight 🚨

Every week, we highlight one of our favorite scholarships.

There are so many great scholarships this month that I just couldn’t resist sharing more.   I’ve decided to share a handful with you today.
