🎶Theme: It’s an 80s Thing — College Edition
Grab your Walkman, crank up the mixtape, and let’s rock the college journey like it’s 1985. Because if the 80s taught us anything, it’s that big hair, big dreams, and a little perseverance can take you far. For more 80s fun, click here.
📌 Also, I’ll be doing a free webinar on Tuesday evening. I’d love for you to join us. Sign up here!
College Students
🎵 Song of the Week: “Livin’ on a Prayer” – Bon Jovi
Exams, studying, and scholarship deadlines might have you feeling stretched thin, but you’re halfway there. Stay focused, pace yourself, and remember—every task you complete moves you closer to the finish line.
Tip: Make a “Top 5” list of what you can realistically do this week (e.g., submit one scholarship, edit your essay, reach out to a professor). Cross them off as you go—instant dopamine hit.
High School Students
🎵 Song of the Week: “Don’t Stop Believin’” – Journey
Whether you’re mapping out which schools to visit, thinking about majors, or starting your first scholarship search, don’t underestimate the power of believing in yourself.
Tip: Pick one scholarship to apply for—even a quirky one. (Yes, there’s one for tall students, duck callers, and doodlers!) Starting now builds confidence for later.
Parents
🎵Song of the Week: “Take It Easy” – Eagles (okay, late 70s, but it counts 😉)
Your student is on an emotional rollercoaster. They’ll change their minds, get frustrated, and celebrate small wins. Your role? Be the calm in their storm—patient, organized, and encouraging.
Tip: Have one “college chat” this week that isn’t about deadlines. Instead, ask: What excites you most about the next chapter? Then just listen.
Educators
🎵 Song of the Week: “Another One Bites the Dust” – Queen
Rejections happen, but they don’t define your students. Remind them that one “no” is just making room for the right “yes.”
Tip: Share a 5-minute classroom activity where students match an 80s song title to a financial or college challenge (e.g., “I Will Survive” = FAFSA). It makes learning both memorable and fun.
Quote of the Week
“Don’t stop believin’… hold on to that feelin’.” – Journey
Fun Fact of the Week
🥜 In the 1940s, Oregon State let students pay tuition with potatoes and peanut butter. So yes—college costs have always been “interesting.”
Challenge of the Week
Pick your theme song for the semester. Write down how the lyrics (or the vibe) connect to your current goals. Use it as motivation when things get tough.
