Financial Literacy Series – Week 3: Summer Money is the Best Money!
Summer is coming. 🌞
You can feel it in the breeze, the longer days, and yes — the sudden urge to clean out your closet or maybe make a few changes before swimsuit season. I’ve been there. (In fact, I’m right there with you this year.)
But while everyone’s talking about getting “summer ready,” let’s talk about something way more powerful than a new wardrobe or toned arms…
Summer Money.
☀️ What’s “summer money,” you ask?
It’s the kind of cash you can make (and save!) during those warm, open days — whether you’re:
Babysitting or dog walking
Mowing lawns or cleaning out garages
Starting a side hustle, freelance gig, or reselling your old stuff
Applying for scholarships with your extra free time
Teaching yourself to budget while you’re not buried in homework
Summer money isn’t just about earning more — it’s about learning how to use your extra time to make smart money moves. You don’t need a full-time job or a business degree. You just need a plan. 🌟
This week, we’re giving you a 7-Day Financial Reset Toolkit to help you make space for that summer money to work for you.
Think of it as spring cleaning for your finances — with a sunshine-filled payoff.
Because when you have a financial plan, a little savings cushion, and confidence in where your money is going — that’s when the real glow-up happens.
Seasons are changing, and summer offers a chance to reset — not just physically, but mentally, emotionally, and financially. Our 7-Day Financial Reset Toolkit will help you clean house, simplify your money life, and walk into summer feeling lighter, freer, and in control.
🧭 This Week’s Focus: The 7-Day Financial Reset
We’ve built a 7-Day Financial Reset just for you — short, powerful, and life-changing.
Each day focuses on one small but mighty task to help students, families, and educators clear the clutter, set smart goals, and start building real financial confidence.
🧰 Included in the Toolkit:
Journal prompts for reflection
🧠 What You’ll Do Each Day:
Day | Focus | Outcome |
1 | Know Your Numbers | Clarity on what’s coming in and going out |
2 | Cancel & Clear | Cut out sneaky subscriptions and unnecessary expenses |
3 | Set One Bold Goal | Choose one money goal (save $500, apply for 3 scholarships, etc.) |
4 | Build Your “Money Moves” Playlist | Podcasts or songs that inspire action |
5 | Automate Something | Savings, bill pay, or even scholarship search alerts |
6 | Find a Financial Mentor | Who can guide you? (a parent, teacher, or online coach) |
7 | Reflect & Celebrate | Write your top 3 wins and share your story |
🔥 This Is For You If...
You feel like your money controls you — not the other way around.
You don’t know where to start.
You’ve got big dreams but your wallet says “LOL.”
You just need a push and a plan.
✨ Words of Wisdom
“You don’t have to be rich to take control of your finances — you just have to be ready.”
– Unknown (but maybe you someday!)
🎓 For College Students
Start now. Even if you have $40 in your bank account, the power is in the planning. The future you depends on the current you. Don’t let them down.
🏫 For High School Students
You don’t have to wait until you're 25 to get good at money. In fact, starting now gives you the edge most adults wish they had at your age.
Start applying for summer jobs or brainstorm ideas for making summer money.
👪 For Parents
Want to raise financially smart kids? Model the mindset. Do the 7-Day Reset as a family. Talk about it at dinner. Show them money isn’t scary — it’s a tool for freedom.
👩🏫 For Educators
Use the Reset Toolkit with students as a weekly challenge or in advisory class. Invite them to choose one day to present their learnings or “wins” to the class. Bonus: Use it to refresh your own goals, too!
🤯 Fun Financial Fact of the Week
👀 65% of Americans don’t know how much they spent last month. Awareness is the first step to empowerment. Do you know how much you spent? Be the exception.
